President Kiir To Address Nation On Crisis
South Sudanese President Salva Kiir is set to address the nation Wednesday, on the current political stalemate in the country, an official said Monday.

JUBA, 14 January 2014 [Gurtong] - South Sudan, since mid December 2013, is plunged into a political crisis that has now killed thousands of people and displaced close to 400,000 according to the United Nations.
Ateny Wek Ateny, the Spokesman in the office of the President told journalists in Juba that there appears to be a compromising “progress” mood on the ongoing peace talks in Addis Ababa between the two warring sides hence Kiir will speak to the nation rather than through journalists on the general prevailing situation.
“There is progress that is going on in Addis Ababa,” Ateny told the press.
However, there are no breakthrough reached between the rebels and the government on the talks.
The rebels are reported to be insisting the 11 political detainees are released first before the talks are boosted and government also insists on its side of not admitting to any preconditioned talks.
Since the outbreak of the crisis, Kiir had so far addressed the parliament over the situation.
It will be the first time he will be speaking the citizens.
Meanwhile fighting in several parts of the country is still raging between government and anti-government forces.
