South Sudan Poised To Retake Towns From Rebel Forces

 

South Sudan Vice President James Igga Wani is currently on an official visit to Eastern Equatoria State capital, Torit, where he said that the government forces will soon recapture key towns now being controlled by the rebel forces.

TORIT, 08 January 2014 [Gurtong] –
 The claim comes as the government and rebel delegations are cuttently holding talks in Ethiopia to end hostilities and restore peace.

“These few days, you will hear that Bor and Bentiu will simultaneously fall under government control,” the VP said.

Upon arrival, the vice president held a brief meeting with state governor Louis Lobong Lojore at his office in Torit and thereafter addressed heads of security forces at the state Council of Ministers’ Hall before concluded with a lengthy meeting attended by all the state government key leaders and the members of public focusing on the current security situation issues in the country.

In a press briefing a moment ahead of a prolonged meeting held at Hotel Torit, the leader elaborated his purpose of visit linking it to the current security situation in the country following a failed coup which according to him was originated by Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

He said his coming to the historic state is majorly to brief his people about unfortunate development caused by aborted coup in Juba which eventually failed he felt it is important for the people to know in clear terms, what was the genesis of the problem.

He told the press that the security situation in South Sudan’s capital, Juba, is stable.

The VP reaffirmed that the government is committed to bring peace to the country saying currently they are pursuing talks in Addis Ababa of Ethiopia to ensure the government and the rebels come to terms.

He said the government is determined to recapture Bor and Bentiu capitals of Jonglei and Unity states respectively which he said are currently prove problematic states after Upper Nile fell back to the government control.

The VP Wani promises that it will not take long for his forces to recapture the capitals of the two states from the hands of the rebels under the Riek Machar.

The VP is expected to hold a big rally and address the state residents today at Torit Freedom Square.
