MALAKAL, 02 January 2014 [Gurtong] - Governor Kun on Monday called upon all the civil servants to resume to their normal work activities in the state capital, Malakal.
The fights in Malakal broke out on the 24 December with a section of the town falling to the rebels loyal to Dr. Riek Machar but South Sudan troops now control the key parts of the town including the Malakal National Airport.
Kun who left the town during the fights returned to the state capital with some cabinet ministers.
Kun during his arrival to the state capital was dressed in Military Uniform without the rank and his body guards were in jubilation as they approached the town after the day the SPLA government forces drove back the rebels.
During the visits to the teaching hospital in Malakal, the hospital Nurses and cleaners were busy, a sign of work resumption.
The governor declared the state to be under full control of the SPLA government forces adding that they will protect the citizens.
However Kun also urged the civilians to carry out their business out in the town as normal.
The state government ordered all the organized forces in the state capital not to be moving with guns in town unless authorized during the duty hours.
The sector II commander Lt. Gen. Johnson Gony Biliu also assures the state citizens about strong security urging all to refrain from tribal affiliations.
Meanwhile the SPLA is assuring all the civilians in the town that they will have maximum protection provided to them.
