Abyei proved their loyalty to South Sudan

The Ngok Dinka of Abyei spoke with one voice that their areas and people belong to South Sudan. I think this is a right moment for South Sudan government to show her support to Abyeians. Some may argue that even though the unilateral referendum was conducted by Abyeians, the international community does not recognised it. This unilateral referendum is symbolic indeed both to Abyei people and entire Southerners.

For years South Sudan government was reluctant to support the plight of Abyei. Now the Abyei people have shown that their interest is always to join South Sudan. At least now the entire Southerners know clearly that Abyei people want to be united and be part South Sudan. In my view this endeavour by Abyei people is vital for South Sudan to engage international communities to support Abyei people unilateral referendum.

If the government of South Sudan engaged international communities. This unilateral referendum could be a huge celebration for Southerners. However Kiir administration thought that international communities will not play in case. I think in this unilateral referendum Khartoum regime succeeded because they had engaged international communities effectively including the UN and Africa Union.

It is time for Kiir administration focusing their attention on issues of Abeyi. This time Abyei people should not be left alone as their issue is very complex and require support from Kiir administration. Also, the people in South Sudan can play big role in Abyei issue. This issue have surpass Abyei people and they can not be allow to deal with it alone.

The result of Abyei unilateral referendum shown a people determine for their quest. It just need a little bit of support from Kiir administration especially lobbying the international communities. For Abyei issue to succeed it need entire people of South Sudan help. If everything is left to this current government it will definitely take long time for it to yield result.

Abyei people proved their allegiance to South Sudan through the unilateral referendum. It will be good if Kiir administration start lobbying the international communities so that Abyeians dream of coming back home will be realise.
