On August 28, the security authorities summoned journalist Mohamed Mohamed Osman Omar to the security headquarters in the neighborhood of Khartoum and detained him for 4 hours, during which he was interrogated over what the BBC's website is publishing with regard to the conditions of health as well as the sufferings of South Sudanese refugees in Sudan. The security bodies consider what the website is publishing a defamation of Sudan's image.
In the same context of violations, the police forces detained, on August 27, journalist "Mortada Ahmed"- a reporter for Al-Khartom Newspaper- inside the security office in the Interior Ministry, against the backdrop of covering a sit-in staged by a woman in front of the ministry's building. The security bodies threatened him and detained him for half-hour and then he was released.
"The Sudanese authorities' continuation of harassments and legal prosecutions of journalists and media professionals is a flagrant violation of the freedom of expression as well as press freedom, particularly under the fierce attack, by the authorities, on the newspapers and their workers," ANHRI says.
ANHRI demands from Sudanese authorities to promptly cease the security prosecutions and harassments and to abide by all the international treaties that support the human rights, freedom of expression and press freedom, which Sudan has signed.
